How to make kindness coupons with children
Updated 30 October 2026 · By Rob and Chris, two Sheffield dads, and our families
A kindness coupon is a homemade voucher for something kind your child can really do, like a game together, a bedtime story or laying the table. They write or draw it, decorate it and give it, and it costs nothing.
- Time: about 15 minutes
- Ages: 3 and up, with a part for each age
- In the Famoo calendar as: A gift that costs nothing
What do you need?
- Paper or card
- Pens or crayons
How do you do it?
- Think of a gift. Choose something kind you can really do: play a game together, read a story or help with a small job.
- Check with a grown-up. Agree the idea, and how long it will take, with a grown-up.
- Make the coupon. Write or draw what you are offering and who it is for.
- Decorate and give. Add a festive border and give the coupon to the person.
- Keep the promise. Agree a time to use it, then do it.
How can each age join in?
- Ages 3 to 5. Draw a small promise. A grown-up writes the words.
- Ages 6 to 9. Write and decorate a coupon you can really keep.
- Ages 10 and up. Make a personal coupon with clear details and a date to use it.
What can a child put on a kindness coupon?
Some ideas, in a child’s own words:
- One game of your choice, with me
- I will lay the table on Sunday
- I will read you a story
- I will help carry the shopping in
- Ten minutes of tidying, wherever you like
Tip
Write a day on the coupon, such as “Saturday morning”. A coupon with a day on it is easier to remember to use.
